It is almost became a tradition for every spring to have a picnic engagement session in High Park. It does not matter if it is during the cherry blossom time or during the beautiful magnolia blooming. I love that first outdoor session, with the breeze of renewed air, the fresh blossoms, and finally, the opportunity to enjoy the warmth of the sun after a very long winter. It is no coincidence that Stas & Polina engagement session theme is picnic. This is how the actual event happened; Stas proposed to Polina during their picnic. I was quite thrilled when Stas & Polina chose me as their wedding photographer. Even though I have meet Polina a few times before, we share couple of mutual friends. I was happy to get to know her more and meet her fiancé. I instantly felt this is going to be exciting. I discovered that Stas & Polina are incredibly easy going and they love to have fun. When I first showed the photos to them, their first words were: “ The pictures are amazing and they are so silly!“ I love that reaction, this session is meant to be fun and silly, the goal is to get to know the couple and most importantly to make the couple feel comfortable in front of the camera before the BIG day comes. The ideas just came so naturally and the way both of them felt shows in the final results. I like Stas’s sense of humor, he made Polina laugh and totally follow his act. Being a chef Stas had a vision of this session and totally came prepared in terms of the food, leaving the décor and props up to Eleni and I. We had four ideas and it was great to see them coming alive. The first setting was white, gold luxury picnic, featuring the delicious cold cuts, veggie platter, white sparkling wine, rye bread and for the desert – panettone. The second idea was more of casual picnic, with dark green & blue colors, where the couple enjoyed, vintage Italian sodas sipping trough the paper stripy straws, feeding each other the chocolates, the wooden white lantern made it a perfect shot for the engagement ring, I love the heart-shaped window. The next idea, was a painting, it started with learning that the wedding of “S” & “P” (Stas & Polina) stands for salt and pepper. We decided to draw salt and pepper shaker and we just left them to do what they want which ended up with painting each other faces. The last set of shots where the silly portraits with “his” and “her” mustache and lips lollipops. It might be a bit overdone, but I could not help it not to include, since I knew that those two will make it a fun and I think it was great way to end the session. To finalize, I just could not wait for “S” & “P” wedding this coming Saturday in one of the best places I have ever photographed in GTA, this magical and astonishing forest of the Kortright Center Conservation. I look forward to their wedding and will be sharing photos on my blog shortly after.
