It seems that it was not that long ago since I photographed Marianne and Kevin’s wedding. Christmas was approaching back then, and now that summer finally came, baby Ethan’s arrival is on the way! It was so nice to receive an email from them, and sharing such great news. I am so happy and I cannot wait to meet their little one. I love photographing maternity sessions especially during early summer, as there are always beautiful trees with flowers and endless possibilities with greenery backgrounds. After sending a list of photo locations, I was excited that Marianne and Kevin chose Alexander Muir Park located near Yonge Street and Lawrence Avenue. This park is always been one of my favorites. I especially love the variety of trees and plants featured here, the small hidden paths and a bit of architecture with stone stairs and wall. One of the keys to scheduling your outdoor portrait is time, and when I say time, I mean light. I have always been a fan of natural light and I particularly enjoy it when I have a chance to work with the ambiance conditions, henceforth the finesse of the final results. In mid-June I like to schedule my portrait sessions around 6:30pm or later, depending on the length of the session. As much as I love sunlight, sometimes having it shining from behind the subject, creates an amazing strong outline between the subject and the background known as rim lighting. My second important key for planning an outdoor portrait session is coordination of wardrobe, which works along with props and styling. It is essential to discuss in advance all of these topics. I like to work with a bit of props and I make sure I know what are the colors of the baby’s room as well as style. With all of these things in mind, I came a little earlier to scout the park, found the right spots and was ready to start. I have to mention that not too many fathers like to be in the pictures, but I really like it when they are fully involved in the session. Kevin was one of them! He made Marianne smile all the time and it was so easy to photograph them. Them both irradiate happiness, love and longing for their first baby to arrive. I think these elements are what made this session quite successful! I am looking forward to meeting Ethan, and a big thank you note for Marianne and Kevin for allowing me to photograph another important event in your life.
