You might remember this family, since I recently posted their studio maternity photography session. Being a mother myself, I know the excitement of being new parents, but it was quite a great experience to see the new siblings reaction and behaviour towards each other!
Alexander was about 5 weeks old when Natalia and Michael brought him for his first portrait photo session. He is so handsome, with his long and beautiful hair and his big blue eyes. He was so calm and curious about what we were doing, which helped a lot when taking the pictures.
It is always very touching to see how older kids handle their newborn siblings. Stacy is twelve years older, and she is very happy that she became a BIG sister. She was very enthusiastic; she brought her ballerina outfit and wanted to do some pictures with her younger brother. Stacy also brought Katia, her best friend; they were excited to take pictures together and had lots of fun during the photo session.
At five weeks old most babies are aware of their surroundings, they begin to recognize parent`s face and voice, and they see clearly from 18 inches. At this age, if the baby is awake, you can have them look in the direction you want, which in my case would be the camera lens.
When you compare the newborn baby to one-month-old baby you see the significant change in appearance, they are starting to stretch out and not spend as much time in the natural fetal position, which is soothing and comforting for the newborns.
As a Toronto newborn and baby photographer, I highly recommend to bring your newborn baby before 8 days old to my studio for the newborn portraits. Your baby’s appearance will change quickly and if you come
after your baby turns one week, it is going to be completely different result in the picture, which you can see turned out pretty good 🙂
