This year I reunited with Marina, Mitya and their adorable daughter Sophie. It has been two years since I the last time that I photographed them in my studio for their maternity photo session, Jumple style. This time we decided to go outdoors, since the weather permitted, and kept the first part of the session inspired by the look of the roaring 20’s. I have to say that living downtown has its advantages, which range from various cultural institutions located at a convenient walking distance, a plethora of varied international cuisines, and the hustle and bustle of a big city. Although traffic can sometimes be overwhelming, there are green spaces that can be hidden gems, scattered around the metropolis, like this little green oasis in the middle of the King West area. It has happened to me, on several distinct occasions that I will travel to faraway places for finding the perfect spot for pictures; however, keeping my eyes opened while I walk around my neighborhood allowed me to notice this picturesque spot. When we first talked about this session Marina mentioned that they would like the idea of outdoor session while at the same time, they wanted to continue the tradition of taking fun and crazy Jumple style portraits in the studio. Jumple is Gypsy-Funk band based in Toronto, Canada which Mitya is part of. So for this outdoor family session we used this beautiful antique carriage that I found at an antique store in Queen West. The beautiful flower that Sophie is wearing is handmade by talented artist Alina Kursova. I can certainly agree that it was perfect addition to complete the Sophie’s look. She was very cooperative and enjoyed being outdoors with her parents, as much as her solo pictures, where she evokes the grandeur and stage presence of a movie star.
